Canadian study could lead to rapid testing, severity prediction and treatment for COVID-19
A research team representing Lawson Health Research Institute, Western University and the University of Alberta has published findings regarding the concentration of certain molecules in the body that could result in the ability to identify COVID-19 infections and accurately predict their severity. Two particular molecules showed 98% accuracy in distinguishing COVID-19 patients from individuals who were healthy or sick with other illnesses. Based on these findings and previous studies, the researchers believe that they may be able to predict the severity of the illness. As the study contained 30 participants, further research is needed.
