Covid: New breath test could detect virus in seconds
A company in the UK is developing a COVID-19 test that can detect the virus within minutes via a breath sample, a quicker and less invasive method than currently used in tests. Imspex Diagnostics’ product has shown in early results it can distinguish COVID-19 from other respiratory conditions, such as asthma or bacterial pneumonia . The technology was tested in Scotland and Germany, and was successful at predicting COVID-19 positivity in 80% of patients. That said, the trials conducted to date only involved 100 participants, so further studies on a larger patient pool will be needed before the test can be deployed more widely.
